Latest Version of Yahoo Messenger With Voice: 8.0.0716 Date: 21 September 2006

System Requirements includes : Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows XP, (OSX & Unix versions of Yahoo also available). Do need Internet Explorer installed (IE5.5+) Macromedia Flash 6+.

Download latest Yahoo Messenger from http://messenger.yahoo.com/download.php

Then provision your account (if not already) to be in Yahoo's Windows Live Interoperatbility Beta

TIP: make sure you signed into Yahoo website services prior to going to this link

Click run or save to PC the installation file (remember location if saved)

If clicked run program will start the installation wizard, if choose to save double click install file.

Procede through installation

Sign into Yahoo Messenger

Click Add a contact button from the main window then type the Windows Live Contact e.g. example@hotmail.com in required field

System Requirements: Windows XP & Windows Vista Beta 2 OR RC1 [Beta OS], OSX 10.3.9+ - Microsoft Messenger for Mac 6 (interoperatebility)

Download latest Windows Live Messenger from http://messenger.live.com/download.php (Windows)

Download latest Microsoft Messenger for Mac from http://www.microsoft.com/mac/default.aspx?pid=msnmessenger (OSX)

Example: user: myfriendexample@yahoo.co.uk
myfriendexample@yahoo.co.uk is fictious although not recommended to add unless this user is really your friend

Background

friendly@hotmail.com wants to add myfriendexample@yahoo.co.uk to their windows live messenger list while the friend has the latest version builds (8.0) of yahoo Messenger with voice

Currently Yahoo Interoperatbility is restricted to restricted Yahoo Locale(s)
Available Markets (As At August 21st):

- United Kingdom (EN-GB)
- China (ZH-CN)
- Korea (KO-KR)
- France (FR-FR)
- Germany (DE-DE)

As long as your contact uses these you be able to talk to them

However all the contacts have to be screenname@yahoo.com REGARDLESS of nationality locale of your Yahoo Email (applicable to non US/ @yahoo.com domains)

myfriendexample@yahoo.com will be the same as myfriendexample@yahoo.co.uk for example - you still recieve your email (although its advised to send any corrospondances from windows live email addresses (@msn.com / @live.com / @hotmail.com etc) to the locale address [in this case myfriendexample@yahoo.co.uk]

Sign into Windows Live Messenger
click add contact then add the yahoo screenname with <screenname>@yahoo.com - REGARDLESS for there yahoo email (yahoo.co.uk for example
enjoy! - Yahoo contact will be able to be found (if online) by their yahoo icon in the 'online' group when they accept (hopefully) and next online

Windows Live Messenger - I want but its not supported! What can i do?

There are 2 main choices, not worry LOL - accept decision not going to have any interoperatbility or think of ways to continue your IM fun in other ways (there are options hehe).

There are lots of great new features in Windows Live Messenger but dependant on what new windows live feature is craved by you - MSN Messenger 7.0 sadly is the final version of MSN Messenger that non Windows XP or Vista can use by the offerings of MSN

2 features come to mind stright away - offline messenging and interoperatbilty with Yahoo. Those on Windows 98, 2000 do have a option of interoperatbility via the yahoo messenger route (if you can cope) which Windows 98 & 2000 is supported still (currently - september 2006) - unlike sadly for those on Windows 2000 Windows Live Messenger do not plan support T his will be unpopular by the loyal MSN users on Windows 98, 2000 (although number reduces daily)

There is also the option for offline messenging via web2messenger.com (available to all ) - i use it for my Live Space but can be used anywhere its just a link to a page then send messages.

Mac OSX Users do have more hope as rumors that interoperatbilty will be in the future Yahoo and Windows Live/ Microsoft offerings as theres suggestions they still supporting these users - Yey

wonders should i do a petition (for my good deed of 2006 ) to recommend allow offline messenging (currently 3rd party [web2messenger.com] to all) and a limited interoperatbility of IM networks for Windows 98,2000 and OSX and Linux (have to be politically balanced and think it should be fair - PCs that older or not windows may still have some life in them

Windows Live Spaces Debuts July 15th?

Betanews is reporting that Windows Live Spaces is to debut on July 15th [source].

Personally i take this date with a pinch of salt until there is Windows Live or Microsoft sources backing up the information.

Windows Live Spaces is due summer 2006 so a launch will be coming soon .

Windows Live Spaces has been written about from the spacecraft (Windows Live Spaces offical blog) [here]. it mentions the friends module , windows live gadgets amongst others. feel free to read !

Messenger Support and the 80004005 error

I do not usually write blogs critisizing something but felt like i had to destress and help a few 100 people out

Messenger Support:

what is wrong with them at the moment do they ever read there blogs?

I have a few suggestion(s) for there space.

they should publised it more - mention it in windows live messenger help

but

there should be a welcome post that in that post will a list of all the blogs made already (and is always updated)- there blog is not structured easily for fast finding a particular blog this and all the windows live spaces blogs should make it easier to get to a specific thing (particularly the 'support' ones).

also there should be a main blog with all the error messages that when clicked a blog could come up what each mean (and solutions if have any).

also rambling on something off topic should be banned and confined to a specific blog. if they took more time with the blog i feel people will be less random and post more specific to there problem.

Here is a idea they could use - but quite sure they not though

someone gets the fictional error 999999 (fictional as far as i aware)

they goes to the messenger-support or the help section of windows (even better) and look for that errorcode

and in the end find something like

Error code: 999999

meaning of error: Windows Live Messenger can't be installed on this Operating system.

solution: has to be XP or vista for example <and more detail - similar to some of that said via email>

Error 80004005

There is alot of comments on the http://messenger-support.spaces.msn.com space lately mainly about the 80004005 error. and people getting abit annoyed with not getting a reply. you could try emailing them at support.live.com however below is a response to the error 80004005 when i had it and it was driving me mad - i know how you lot feel.

This solution solves the problem but it can come back - if so do the solution again at another time.

fantastic news

and i can disclose a UK Exclusive. its not the traffic feature but birds eye is now a feature for the 'Former Avon Area' (SW England) (and nope i aint making this up).

Over most of the UK there is improvements to the zoom in feature with what seems few more levels

Shockingly central london is still not got bird eye (offically) Bristol, England (and surrounding areas) a Bird Eye view option is displayed - will screen dump . Cardiff and Birmingham and quite alot of the rest of the UK is still offically sadly Birds Eye Hidden.

I must of found something i was not suppose to find at the moment as London Birds Eye images are hidden (well i managed to get up the London Eye as a Bird's Eye Imagei forgot to save it can not reproduce

Good news on the Search feature if you search for a town/city outside the US (Australia,New Zealand, UK and Most of Europe at least) e.g. Cardiff, Wales it now gives that option e.g. now Bristol, England is added the long lists of US Bristol cities/ towns that were on this search Before. you can even search for a specfic place Birmingham New Street Rail Station (for example)

I can reproduce though the Bristol, England Birds Eye and give a perminlink here

I have tried looking at Bristol Filton Airport - i am alittle bored at the moment aka the Bristol Home of Concorde. - unfortunately the famous Aircraft not there suggesting this was taken when concorde was in a hangar or before 2003, the Other Bristol Airport (Bristol International - 7.2 miles) south of Bristol is about 1/2 a mile outside the bird eye boundary which seems to be approx 5-7 miles circular of the city

I originally from the Bristol area so its fanastic Microsoft chose my area to what seems to beta test it

A big Well done to the live local team with regards to the improvements i mentioned and the News Poster Kip. Hope Live Local continues to improve

My MSN Space is alittle somber at the moment so below is to change the mood a little.

A Pesky Bug with syncronising be fixed in Mail Desktop - can Beta test again now . i know one or 2 of my contacts whould be happy as i can obtain my emails now they know i can't access my mail and was like 'you have my messages you not read them ' - the web version mail.live.com during work hours for me is locked out - University new inititive email in uni hours online not exactly allowed- unless its Unis Emails

My Uni but the Mail Desktop Beta bypasses this

Windows Live Friends Beta comes to Netherlands from Australia where there was a limited test. I am hoping other countries are to follow.

Netherlands is the first Friends Beta not to be English - well it is still english - australia but most people whould thinked Canada, US, UK and New Zealand whould been the next country as they share the same language. But as always Windows Live has a surprise up its sleeve so maybe the french etc. version coming soon

Windows Live Mail promotes Mobile service

About 2am this morning i got a email from the Windows Live Mail Team and they were inviting me to there Mobile Mail Beta Program via the ideas.Live.com interface but not sure if they remember however i been on both Beta's for a while on microsoft connect - seems like a case of them seeing my name twice!

however it seems people with the web mail service being invited to the mobile program (however MS Connect program recently closed as mentioned on a recent blog). And when i was informed a email from Windows Live Mail i got very excited expecting it maybe some info on the Mail Desktop Beta as mentioned on liveside.net a while back - well i have to box up my wanting to see the service alittle longer.

PS: as i know staff at liveside.net occassionally visit Hi Chris (Overdo) and Harrison some promotion

28-Feb 2006 - Build 566 is Resleased - Important Installation Instructions

By now most of you should be aware that build 566 has been released and is being automatically updated for everyone on the beta. If you are using build 562 you are also aware of a bug with the automatic update where it continually asks you to updated but you are still left with build 562. Here is the work-around:

1. Uninstall build 562 by going to Control Panel -> Add Remove Programs and removing "Messenger Beta"

2. After uninstalling it may appear that you still have Messenger installed, if that is the case try signing in and let the automatic update kick in. Proceed with the automatic update and install. After installing, you should now have build 566.

3. Managed Beta Testers should have a instructions already: If you were able to fully uninstall build 562 during step one you can go to https://connect.microsoft.com/ (link removed in full) then Windows Live Messenger and download build 566 from there.

Invited Testers: Follow Step 1 and Step 2 (if applicable) then download using the public link http://g.msn.com/1csbeta/Mess80_EN

Build 562 was intended for Managed beta testers only but since many people outside of the Managed beta may have installed a leaked build they all are affected by this without the benefit of this information. Feel free to post these instructions on your blogs or in public newsgroups. Any moment now, the public download link (http://g.msn.com/1csbeta/Mess80_EN) will be pointing to build 566.
