Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Public Preview

This is not Exclusive News but just post it anyways!

Earlier today i was viewing Neowin.net Forums using Internet Explorer 6 for Windows XP SP2. when i found a recent headline informing that Internet Explorer 7 Public Preview BETA 2 has reissued with an new build and the public Preview been refreshed. I thought i may as well try it out - IE 7 its public beta like Messenger is - one of my favorites so i was tempted to use it.

First Impressions: Not bad um abit like where is the Menu Structure File, Tools, Help etc but i have now found them after some exploring. and as i was exploring classic mode is a option so people who familar to IE6 interface could use that if need be. I like the RSS Feed Reader - of course the first feed was my own i subscribed to although Neowin and BBC News came closely followed .

IE7, Vista(Longhorn) and Office 2007(Office12) Betas had been an reason that inspired me to be a betatester but being a computing student and wanting to improve products also gave me qualities.

i not been a Beta Tester for long . was doing Office Communicator Web Access (my first Beta) (its like a web version of MSN for businesses) before the fun of Windows Live and i am quite a active beta tester that now extends further afield. Windows Live Security Center was my first Beta to complete!

Beaware if you not comfortable with Beta software its advised you do not install IE7 or Messenger etc, - as visiters to my blog proberly know i am an Microsoft Beta Tester on Connect

Always be aware the beta software that running unlaunched software that maybe serious bugs and limited support and key computing knowledge of recovery and reinstall and problemsolving is a good thing to have. i urge people not to hack or reenginer programs to get around systems and going on websites and torrants as these could been modified and contain nasties including viruses, spyware and adware E.g. IE7 and leaked betas thats not from Microsoft publically.

Before i get bashed IE 7 Beta 2 Preview and Windows Live Messenger public accessable (without the invites) is in the public domain and as long as i do not disclose Manage Beta secrets ok if i mention the promotion onto the service now that invites are worthless

Microsoft Office Live Beta Released - wheres my invite ;)

According to Neowin.net Microsoft has released Office Live but where is my Invite? . Maybe it might be cause the US Only exclusivity and we non US English can't use it - Microsoft what is the difference between UK English, American English and Australian English? please can you define why you got to descriminate on country! - Go On Microsoft explain why! English is English Microsoft the whole english community has to wait. just because we don't use a 'z' and use a 's' e.g. Organise and the addition of u in words like Colour - this descrimination are you assuming us UK, Canadians, Australians and others are not capable of reading and using it . Mozilla guilty as well and needs to learn as well whats the point of an English Great Britain (that naming is not correct as you exclude Northern Ireland which makes up the UK) version of Firefox and thunderbird you only get Google Search UK instead of US and who honestly whould kick up a big fust - and it takes Firefox when 1.5 came out nearly 2 weeks to change basically the difference of Favourites and also change google search - How Lame!!!

I can say the same with Windows Live Expo and Windows Live Local which is so US Exclusive

You might be thinking am i crazy talking about Santa but there a Festive IM security issue around.

Santa has started his rounds early this year according to the technology site neowin.net if you use a IM Client you might get a 'present' from Santa (us adults know the truth about santa but for any child reading this this Santa is not the real santa cause its not nice ) this will be a computer worm and be a unwanted present you not want it also spreads to your contacts on clicking a link.

A Santa Claus worm is attempting to trick America Online, Microsoft MSN and Yahoo instant-messaging users into clicking on a file that delivers unwanted software to a victim's computer.

The IM.GiftCom.All worm attempts to dupe IM users into thinking an acquaintance has sent them a link to a harmless Santa Claus file, according to a security advisory issued Tuesday by IMlogic. People who click on the file will see an image of Santa, but what they are less likely to notice is a so-called rootkit being installed onto their system. A rootkit is a tool designed to go undetected by the security software used to lock down control of a computer after an initial hack. The malicious attacker can then distribute messages to the user's IM contacts, using a similar technique to lure the unsuspecting acquaintance to click on the link.

.NET Service performance - its playing games & other Windows Live stuff

Your connection with .net messenger service service has been lost reconnecting in 9:59 it was connecting in 20 secs the first time then progressed 20, 30, 1 min 3 mins 5 mins now 10 mins - it comes back for a few seconds then disconnects again - one of the side affects on Beta testing software theres occassionally problems and there seems to be a problem with the service well staying on the .Net service for more then a few seconds - Yesterday there was a Beta chat for Windows Live Messenger where Beta Testers were invited to ask questions - was a good experience learnt alot and also found out some things to come - not allowed to say what they were and have to admit the conversation was alittle fast i can't remember most of it - must read the transcript . was good hear suggestions by others and give my suggestions. quite afew testers had the same suggestions as me and some had ones that i not even thought off

If you got suggestions you can pass suggestions onto the WLM Messenger Team via there blog (they do not want invite requests) or leave them in this blog's comments and i forward them on

Yahoo have released a public beta of its 7.5 client on its beta site http://beta.messenger.yahoo.com first mentioned by a member at neowin.net but Windows Live Messenger Beta announced yesterday evening starting its offical beta testing to selected individuals looks better from its feature list! - Windows Live and MSN Messenger fan that is me . it deserves a look .

Google, Yahoo, MSN Search referals what do people refer to my space about?

Over the last few days i been looking at what do people search for and end up to on my space.

Google Blog Search leads with MSN Search a close second. Advent Calendar is a highly refered seach term to my space. people have several ways of spelling calendar with 'Advent Calander' and ' Advent Calender' 2 other popular ways on MSN and Google being one of the most highest ranked sites on there. another term still on the Advent theme is the term 'homemade advent calendar' and 'december calander'.

i on Sunday registered to be a member at Technorati - it does blog searches and has a blog ping service. also blogs are given 'tags' my tags include at the moment 'birthdays', 'advent calendar' although more be added over time.

another popular search term that leads to my space on the first page is searching 'Jamie's Space', 'Jamie' and restricting them to the spaces.msn.com main site.

Now and again i recieve search requests one such one was 'Windows Live Messenger 8.0 sign up' and similar Windows Live Searches like Mail- you have to be an Beta Tester for Windows Live Messenger 8.0 however other Windows Live Betas including the US Exclusive ones of Windows Live Onecare and Windows Live Security Center and the worldwide available Windows Live Mail are availble at http://ideas.live.com for signup where there is a waiting list.

People occassionally still search for free winks and MSN 7 and 7.5 freebies - this promotion was stopped early 2005 - THere are sites that still give MSN Winks though.

Web2Messenger down again

Web2Messenger has been having not such a good week with Wednesday (which was Computer Security Day) - one of the worse days for it to be down. Web2Messenger was closed down after having its forums and site compromised. The site however came back that evening allowing its forum users and users of the web2messenger messaging service to recieve messages. The good news was short lived with the site being down again the morning after for what the site said for some other reason like wednesday the site came back online later in the day. Today Friday now the upgrading the servers and hope to be back over the weekend. ever since Wednesday breach the dynamic MSN status images have been out of action whenever its back i sure they want to put this week behind them.

Web2Messenger is not the only site having some problems Neowin.net still having problems with its news pages although the forum and new blog service is been up and running since late wednesday - only today for those who did not know that neowin.net/forum was avaiable and up. i find out most of my news from neowin and cnet.com

Bad News , my PC has to returned for safety concerns as the box they sent was damaged and also they need to give the mains adaptor back which we sent and its not been returned.

The current Schedule is to expire from 7pm on Friday yey! cause my PC is due back Thursday and Friday at the latest. also the university have gave Monday as 24hr access to the ICT Suites so both good things have came. finally assuming they do not delay either one. why 7pm Friday cause until 4pm on Friday this schedule but between 4pm-7pm i be away reactivating Windows XP, reinstalling MSN but it would be 7.5 at first (the first time using it) and Microsoft Office 2003 and applying all updates and other required software like Flash, and Adobe Acrobat. all this would take some time. if i aint online by 7pm (fri) i be on as soon as possible.

More news is tomorrow Thursday going to be the worse day of the week - i have a assignment due, also there is 6 hours timetabled and i donating blood as well. tomorrow going to be rather stressful and they say be not stressed.

Firefox fanbase reaches new high

Firefox getting more popular i personally can not stand it - only like the ad block

25% of US female teens aged 15-17 own there own blogs

About a quarter of girls, ages 15 to 17, keep their own blogs, compared with only 15 per cent of boys in that same age group according to a survey conducted by the Pew Internet and American Life Project. Overall, one in five U.S. teens has a blog and nearly three in five school-age teens with Internet access have created some type of on-line content, including Web pages with artwork, photos and stories. Comparatively, only 7% of adults keep their own blogs.

The findings, which have a margin of error of 3 percentage points, are based on a random telephone survey of about 1,100 young people and their parents, conducted Oct. 16 to Nov. 28, 2004. Since this survey is based on results from nearly a year ago, one wonders if the numbers would be even higher today as blogs seem to continue to gain in popularity.

I starting to fall in love with the tab browsing. The Bugs is annoying though and having the desktop search throw on you but when Internet Explorer comes we can get rid of this toolbar althugh the privacy thing is good for personal info, sign info and credit/ financial info

Tabbing would not be the only feature thats new in Internet Explorer i am sre. the tabbing of the MSN Toolbar is not perfect but a step in the right direction and whould not be a surprised if more versions come out as it is microsofts first attempt

I am a loyal to Internet Explorer. when Internet Explorer 7 comes out it would have tabbing as a feature but meanwhile MSN Toolbar has incorperated tabbed broswing into its toolbar. Tabbing would not be the only feature thats new in Internet Explorer i am sre. the tabbing of the MSN Toolbar is not perfect but a step in the right direction and whould not be a surprised if more versions come out as it is microsofts first attempt

Computer Problems persist

after writing in the blog called the alternative longest day which said i fixed Office 2003. another problem arrises (this problem is unordinary and shutsdown the program Outlook 2003 if a email is doubled clicked into when it becomes its own window for about .2 (amount of time to see it) of a second then the whole outlook program closes automatically without any crash messages also the CDRW services in Windows when it wants to switches off and i can't burn CDR's

No illegal copying hehe had to say that. bet i get some people who want to copy music here now or some anti piracy lowlifes that need to get out and do other things really then vitimising children and the poor with lawsuits

no backup. pc crashes i limited how i can get it back again

BPI and RIAA do not worry my disk dirves still read and also can rip music from my CD's or any CD's that matter lol they can do this in whatever music program and a update to the above Real Player allows me to burn music to disk still and make MP3 Cd's or Audio Cd's and before BPI adds my details to the rubbish list it has i do not share it with anyone maybe i might play the music if i have friends arround what you going to do sue me for having a party with friends lol

MSN attacked *wonders to change all passwords now* although it was the MSN Korean Site so i not visited it however arn't once a person signs in all linked. US: msn.com UK msn.co.uk msn.com.au msn.fr etc if i can find hotmail or sign in it signs into and redirects to my US MSN layout (i got MSN setup to the street that Bolt (www.bolt.com) based zip code and road address - i prefer US style over UK no one tell cause i don't want to see. I do get a US Version layout of MSN 7 as well. The UK one needs more variety

WASHINGTON - Password-stealing software planted by hackers was active on Microsoft’s popular MSN Web site in South Korea for days before the world’s largest software company learned about the break-in and removed the computer code.

Police investigators and Microsoft specialists are continuing to search for clues to the culprits behind this week’s high-profile computer break-in. More details emerged Friday about the hacking, which targeted subscribers of an online game called “Lineage” that is popular in Asia.

Microsoft Corp. said it had cleaned the Web site, www.msn.co.kr, and removed the software code that had been planted on its news page. It said another company that operates the MSN South Korea site apparently failed to apply necessary software patches, leaving its server computers vulnerable.

(MSNBC content is distributed by MSN. MSNBC itself is a Microsoft - NBC joint venture.)

Security researchers at San Diego-based Websense Inc. discovered the break-in late Sunday during routine scans it makes against more than 250 million Web sites each week looking for sources of viruses and other infections.
A previous inspection by Websense of the MSN South Korea site the evening of May 27 did not detect the dangerous software.
“Our alarms went off (Sunday). We noticed it was infected,” said Dan Hubbard, its senior security director.
Hubbard said Websense researchers investigated further and quickly updated protective software to keep its own corporate customers safe. It did not successfully reach Microsoft officials to warn them about the break-in until midday Tuesday, a day after the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Microsoft said it removed the password-stealing software from the MSN site hours later.
The chronology suggests the hackers could have harvested stolen passwords from visitors to the MSN site for up to three days. But their target — passwords to game accounts — lessened the significance of the break-in since the hacker software appeared not to collect any network or banking passwords.
The Lineage game and its successor boast more than 4 million subscribers, mostly in Asia, who pay about $15 each month, said Mike Crouch, a spokesman for the U.S. subsidiary of South Korea-based NCSoft Corp. Crouch said he was unaware of any significant increase in complaints by subscribers about stolen passwords tied to the Microsoft break-in.
South Korea is a leader in high-speed Internet users worldwide. Microsoft’s MSN Web properties — which offer news, financial advice, car- and home-buying information and more — are among the most popular across the Web.
A Microsoft spokesman, Adam Sohn, said the company was confident its English-language Web sites were not vulnerable to the same type of attack.

Update: Office Problems

Microsoft emailed me a document called step 1 disable error reporting and had the cheek to send how to do it in pictures - what do i study erveryone lol - Computing with American Studies. they wanted screendumps of the problems of MS Office 2003 in detail with screen dumps. i cheekly done loads of screendumps that is and sent them as well as disabling error reporting. Even when error reporting was clearly off after a reboot it would still request to send info to microsoft so if you got programs microsoft and others could be collecting info and error reports right now.

I waiting for the Microsoft Office Technical guy (he not from Microsoft UK) to send step 2 however cause he emailed me at 2:57am british time he not replied let assuming might be either monday or about 3am tomorrow he emails.

I keep my friends in the know but hopefully Microsoft fixes these problems when they delicated to me they can tell me other things When MS Antispyware to be final cause it expires on July 31st 2005. and they might want to get CDRW workability again on my PC

the title gives away what i am feeling at the moment since 4pm today Microsoft Office 2003 has gone downhill. i tell a lie it been downhill for abit longer more like January. January was the last time Office Updates worked.
I done office updates and as typically since march i noticed it not work (for some unknown reason to microsoft) not long after Microsoft Word decided to Crash and a program file corrupted itself leaving the only option to reinstall after deinstalling or use the Windows Installer cleanup Utility to remove its registry links.
It also seems either my product key is now became invalid or there validation server is politely had it (i could sweared but it would not got me anywhere. now i resulted to customer support for office do they know the answer or are they going to make things worse. i be sueing the individual at microsoft who does my case if my pc gets any more problems..
So here i proclaim Microsoft get rid of the validation checking thing and also bugless software . At the moment I stuck without any office programs and hate Office much

Those folders on your Windows desktop will still be yours -- but in the future you'll need to figure that out on your own.

Ending a longstanding tradition, Microsoft Corp. plans to stop using the word "my" as the default prefix for such folders as "My Documents," "My Music," "My Pictures" and others along those lines. Starting in the next Windows version, due out next year, folders will be known simply as "Documents," "Music," and so on.

With any other product, such a minor change probably wouldn't even be noticed. But the Microsoft operating system runs on more than 90 percent of the world's personal computers, and its persistent use of the word has been one of its most conspicuous characteristics -- helping to fuel widespread use of the "my" prefix in the technology industry.

Granted, computer users might not celebrate the change as much as they did the retirement of Microsoft's unpopular "Clippy" animated assistant. But some experts in the language of technology clearly won't be sorry to see "my" disappear from the next Windows version.

The practice was an artificial attempt to create a personal connection between people and their computers -- "to capture the loyalty of an egocentric population," said Naomi Baron, linguistics professor at American University in Washington, D.C.

"I don't know if we ever, as users, reacted the way that Microsoft hoped we would," Baron said.

"Some people might have, but I think in essence it was just extraneous language," she said.

The technique seems especially outdated now that computers and technology have become such a normal part of everyday life, she said.

In that way, she said, the use of the prefix "my" comes off as "very childish."

But it's not only Microsoft that's engaged in the practice. "My" has become the common shorthand in the technology industry to suggest personalization or customization -- not only in the file structure of individual programs but also in the names of high-profile services and features.

For starters, there's My Yahoo!, My eBay, and Google's "My Search History."

Not to mention the state of Florida's government site, MyFlorida.com. And don't forget the official Swiss tourism site, MySwitzerland.com.

You get the point.

In fact, the very pervasiveness of the prefix is one reason the company is moving away from it, said Jim Allchin, who oversees Windows and related areas as Microsoft's group vice president of platforms.

The company introduced the "my" prefix in part to give users obvious places for storing their own files, Allchin said. (Although users can rename the standard folders, and create their own, many tend to stick with the default Windows naming structure.) He acknowledged that the company also was aiming to make the experience more personal.

But now, the "my" prefix has become so ubiquitous in the technology industry that it's no longer the distinguishing characteristic the company hoped it would be. In part, Allchin attributed the situation to the tendency of software developers to adopt the common Windows terminology when making programs that run on the Microsoft operating system.

"People got carried away," Allchin said in a recent interview. "Anytime Microsoft does something, everybody wants to do it. ... It became a worthless descriptor."

Another change in the upcoming Windows version, code-named Longhorn, could render even the newly named default folders moot for some users. A new Windows search feature will let people create custom "virtual folders" that continuously gather files and organize them automatically based on keyword, file type and other characteristics.

But now that Microsoft is abandoning the prefix "my," will others follow suit? Probably not, said American University's Baron, who is writing a book called "Beyond E-mail: Language in the New Millennium."

The use of the word "my" is "now part of the territory," she said.

Firefox has just celebrated its 50 millionth download
The Mozilla Foundation, maker of the open source web browser Firefox, has released a security patch to plug two critical security flaws in the browser.
The flaws were found last week by net security experts. Danish firm, Secunia, called them "extremely critical".
Mozilla has now recommended people upgrade to the latest version, Firefox 1.0.4, which is a security update.
Firefox is Microsoft Internet Explorer's (IE) main rival. IE has dominated the browser market.
But many have switched to Firefox because, so far, it has had fewer security flaws than IE and is more customisable.
Although the vulnerabilities, reported on Saturday, had been identified no cases had been reported of them being exploited.
Secunia said they were "extremely critical" because they could have let cookie and history information be used to get access to personal information or access previously visited sites.
The first flaw reported fooled the browser into thinking software was being installed by a legitimate, or safe, website.
The second happened was related to the software installation trigger which was not able to properly check icon web addresses which contain JavaScript code.
Potentially, a hacker could have taken advantage of the security flaws to secretly launch malicious code or programs.
Chipping away
Firefox has had more than 50 million downloads since its formal launch in November 2004.
Since then, it has chipped away at IE's dominance, but there are signs that its take-up is slowing down, according to recent figures.
IE fell a percentage in its share of the browser market, net monitoring company WebSideStory said on Tuesday.
Microsoft's browser now has a 88.9% share, while Firefox's share has risen just over a point to 6.8%. Previously, IE dominated more than 95% of the browser market.
But Microsoft is set to release another, more secure, version of IE in the summer.

The Mozilla Foundation was set up by former browser maker Netscape in 1998. Netscape dominated the browser market in the early 1990s.
